About the Book

Book: Finding Harmony

Authors: Alyssa Roat and Hope Bolinger

Genre: Sweet Contemporary Romance

Release date: July 5, 2022

Can two people-pleasing musicians win the grand prize, or will they be forced to give up music for good?

Newly hired worship leader Elijah Peterson can’t seem to catch a break with his church’s congregation. With conflicting demands from congregants, he struggles to find a way to make everyone happy, especially Don, a man who’s rumored to have driven out the last worship leader.

Music teacher Olivia “Liv” Wilson says yes to everything—piano lessons, church volunteering, extra shifts—all while struggling to help pay her dad’s medical bills. As jobs fall through, she’s hit with even worse news—with bills piling up, they could lose her childhood home.

When their meddling roommates force Elijah and Liv into a cooking class together, the two come up with a plan. They’ll enter an indie songwriting competition—with a cash prize that could be enough to save Liv’s house. And maybe if Elijah can win, his musical family and congregation will finally take him seriously.

But winning the competition might mean losing themselves in the process. Can they find a way to strike harmony between writing songs they love and songs the audience wants to hear?

About the Authors

Hope Bolinger and Alyssa Roat are the authors of nearly twenty books both independently and co-authored. They have worked in a wide variety of roles within the publishing industry as agents, editors, writers, journalists, and publicists. When not writing, Hope is a theater nerd who loves to hike, and Alyssa is a history nerd and game enthusiast. Both are proud cat moms. You can learn more about them on social media @hopekbolinger and @alyssawrote.

More from Alyssa

In college, Hope and I (Alyssa) didn’t know the word “no.” After all, our professors, advisors, and chapel speakers all told us, “Say yes to every opportunity. Volunteer for everything. If you don’t do it now, it will be too late. Your career will fail. You won’t please God. Etc. Etc.”

So we followed that advice, and we well-nigh burned ourselves out. Faced with a litany of health issues caused by overworking, we realized after college that maybe we had taken things too far. So we began to work on unlearning this mindset.

To this day, we have to call each other and ask, “Is it okay if I turn down this unpaid opportunity? If I don’t have time for this volunteer work? Will people be mad at me?”

We channeled a lot of this people-pleasing into Finding Harmony. As we recovered from overworking ourselves, our characters Elijah and Liv learned that they didn’t need to do everything. As we fell back in love with writing for the sake of the art, not for the A+, our characters discovered how to remain true to their music.

We hope you enjoy reading Finding Harmony as much as we enjoyed writing it—and we encourage you to follow God’s call on your life, regardless of expectations.

Finding Love in San Antonio by  Miralee Ferrell & Kimberly Rose Johnson on Tour with Celebrate Lit Giveaway Included

About the Book

Book: Finding Love in San Antonio

Authors: Miralee Ferrell & Kimberly Rose Johnson

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release date: June 1, 2022

For TV chef Adela Romero, the lights of LA have lost their luster. The grief of her husband’s death three years ago still hangs heavy over her and her daughter, Fabi.

When Adela hears her mother-in-law’s Mexican diner is struggling, she decides to return to San Antonio and try to make a fresh start—though she can’t leave the media attention entirely behind.

Local food critic David Agraponte has a history with Adela. A history he’d like to rekindle. When he interviews Adela, sparks fly—both good and bad. In Adela’s struggle to put her past behind her, she’s tentative about a new relationship, but David hopes she’ll stay at Romero’s long enough to give him a chance.

Sandra always dreamed of managing Romero’s one day, but her chances of proving herself to her aunt are slim with her famous TV-chef cousin taking all the attention. Can’t her aunt see that Adela’s just passing through on her way to her next big gig? Still, as much as she resents it, Sandra may need Adela’s help if there is going to be a Romero’s left for her to manage.

When Adela gets a TV offer that’s sure to shoot her career to the stars, her choice may hold more than just her future in the balance. Can David and Adela find a way to save Romero’s and hold onto their own dreams, or will Adela’s opportunity push them apart?

Miralee Farrell and Kimberly Rose Johnson have written an intriguing and compelling tale set in the San Antonio, Texas, region. Although I wasn’t born in Texas, I consider myself a true Texas girl through and through; thus the setting of the narrative had already drawn me in before I even started reading it. But I would have been entranced by it even if Texas hadn’t been the setting.

These two writers, each excellent in their own right, were able to combine their two voices in a unique and original way. The Romero women—Adela, the primary character; Fabiola “Fabi”, Adela’s daughter; Sandra, her cousin; and Adela’s mother—made up the majority of the narrative. Farrell wrote about how they each negotiated all the changes in their family and the family business. Johnson’s focus was on Sandra, Adela’s cousin. You would never know the story was written by different authors because of how well it flows. A truly amazing and remarkable feat.

Even though I hadn’t personally shared  some of the experiences the Romero women did, I greatly identified with Adela’s sorrow and guilt about not being available for her daughter due to work obligations. Sadly, I am also aware that many other people share my feelings, too.

Finding Love in San Antonio is a terrific book for the beach, a night at home, or anytime! It’s an entertaining storyline with a sound faith message and lots of culinary allusions that will make you ravenous!

I received a review copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own, and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

More from Kimberly

Kimberly Rose Johnson here. I’m excited to share my story behind the writing of Finding Love In San Antonio. Last year Miralee Ferrell approached me about a project she was working on. She wanted me to write the story of a secondary character into a book she was adapting from a movie, and bonus, I was given license to choose the character. She sent me the script and my imagination took off. What fun!

I knew right away which character’s story I wanted to write. So many ideas of who this woman was behind the scenes filled my mind. I chose Sandra, the heroin’s cousin by marriage. Sandra was sassy in the script and somewhat negative toward Adela. As a positive person who tries to see the bright side in every situation, this bothered me about her, so I had to create a strong reason why she would be this way. In the final cut of the movie, I don’t think Sandra came across nearly as negative as she did in the version of the screenplay I originally saw, so I think along with the backstory I gave her and the fact that I toned Sandra down worked well.

Before this book neither Miralee or I had never co-written a book before…but I must say, I enjoyed it! I had written a story within a story for one of my own books in the past, so I basically did the same thing for this one. We are both so pleased with the outcome that we are going to do it again.

We hope you enjoy seeing the fleshed out version of the movie in our book!

Novel Dreams by Jessica Anne Renwick

About the Book

Can the man who shattered Anna’s dreams help her pick up the pieces?

A wounded heart. A cancelled book contract. A part-time job that doesn’t pay the bills. When Anna Simone moved to Cedar Lake last summer to concentrate on her writing, nothing went as she had planned. Scrambling to find more work, she jumps at the opportunity for more hours at the Starlight Inn. But when her new co-worker turns out to be the man who crushed her author dreams, her excitement slams to a halt.

Once a hotshot editor for a publishing house in Toronto, Matthew Talbot returned to Cedar Lake after the company collapsed. Stuck between jobs and tired of delivering produce for his brother’s market garden, he agrees to help the owners of the Starlight Inn prepare an old barn for an upcoming community dance. The last person he expects to work alongside is an author—especially not one whose book deal he decided to cut.

When he offers Anna a kind gesture to ease his guilt, unexpected feelings rise between them. But with family drama, unresolved pasts, and a pattern of miscommunication—can these two learn to forgive and trust each other?

Cedar Lake, a beautiful, quaint Canadian community, is featured in Jessica Anne Renwick’s second part of the Starlight Inn series, Novel Dreams. I think I’d love to live there because it’s so charming. (I liked the name of the bookstore that also offers loose teas, Steeped in Books, which is a clever play on words!)

Cedar Lake’s residents are a kind, friendly and welcoming group. They rally behind Anna Simone after her dreams of becoming a writer are shattered. Her supervisor offers her additional work, although for a limited time. It does, however, effectively illustrate and reflect the community’s citizens’ kindness, warmth and care.

After the company he works for goes bankrupt, Matthew Talbot comes home to assist his brother, Marshal. He never expected to be digging up potatoes and turnips, but that’s not the worst of his surprises.

Renwick has created an engaging story that explores various facets of the inn, the Talbots’ vegetable farm and numerous of the town’s enterprises, including Steeped in Books. She also highlights individual people of the community, their strengths and faults, in addition to the town’s firms.

I haven’t read Harvest Wishes, the first story in the trilogy, but Novel Dreams works well as a stand-alone.

I received an advanced review copy of Novel Dreams for free from Book Sirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Delilah by Fay Lamb On Tour with Celebrate Lit

About the Book

Book: Delilah

Author: Fay Lamb

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: September, 2018

They’ve sparred for years, but now they’re both headed for a knockout.

Newly elected judge, John M. Turner, tries his best to soothe the hard feelings of former Circuit Judge Delilah James, the woman he bested in the election by only a narrow margin, but his friend’s and her haughty reputation are making it difficult for him to let things slide. Worse yet, a vengeful assistant state attorney, the other candidate whose entry in the race actually handed the win to John, is seeking to have them both removed from the Florida Bar.

Delilah wants to make amends to John, but every time she attempts to apologize or to behave in court, she makes a mess of it. Since leaving the bench, life has become complicated: John’s teenager sister hates her, Libby Carter, has been arrested for battery on a police officer and embroiled her in the plight of the homeless, her past has returned to haunt her, and if that’s not enough, she’s fallen into the one experience in life she never thought would happen to her. John finally offers to make peace, but Delilah’s not ready for that.

Calling a truce with the man you love? What’s the fun in that?

Click here to purchase your copy.

This was the last line I wrote in my review of Hope, by Fay Lamb: “I heard a rumor there will be another book written highlighting Judge Delilah James! I can’t wait to read it, yet I dread it too because I don’t want to leave these wonderful friends!!”  Oh, my broken heart, I feel this way still, especially after having read Delilah!

Delilah is a feisty, strong, self-assured woman. Sometimes, though, her feistiness overcomes her common sense and lands her in trouble. Delilah learns some valuable lessons when newly elected Circuit Judge John Turner sentences her to community service after a contempt of court charge.

I envy Delilah’s strength in her storms and her vulnerability in her friendships. Her personality would cause you to think she would have a hard time loving and forgiving her friends, but you would be very wrong.

I learned a lot while reading Delilah. Portions of her childhood mirrored parts of mine, helping me to understand her more. Alas, while Delilah became stronger for it, I became more compliant and an inveterate people pleaser.  Reading about her strengths gave me hope for myself.

The concepts she constructs in each character’s life are realistic and true to nature. In addition, I love her heart for the lost and seeking. Reading her books lays a firm foundation of Biblical truths and a pathway to Christ.

All of Fay Lamb’s books reverberate with forgiveness and love, faith and hope, and growth and maturity. Her books pull you in and never let go. From the first line (featured on First Line Friday) until the very end of the book, you stay emotionally invested in the lead characters.

I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. However, I was under no obligation to post a review.

More from Fay

When Delilah came on the scene as the ruthless antagonist for Charisse in the first book of the Why Delilah?

by Fay Lamb

When Delilah came on the scene as the ruthless antagonist for Charisse in the first book of the Ties that Bind series, a reader wrote to me before finishing the story and said, “I hope Delilah gets hers.” I replied that she definitely did, but it would not be in the way that she thought. Since the release of Charisse, I heard from many readers who fell in love with Delilah, this delightfully fiendish character who changed in some ways from story to story but never truly lost her brash personality that made her who she is.

I never meant to give Dee her own story, but like many of the characters I write, I find that those that I consider truly secondary are the ones that seem to capture the imagination of the readers. I have a character in a little-known book that I wrote in 1999 that my readers still ask me about today, and characters in a writing tutorial that I used as examples have an adoring audience. The same was true of Delilah. When I sent the synopses in for Charisse, Libby, and Hope, the stories which at that time, encompassed the series, the publisher indicated I could have the contract on one condition: if Delilah got a story of her own. Who was I to argue?

As I completed the other two novels in the series and five other novels in different series for the same publisher, I worked on Delilah in my mind. She wouldn’t let me alone, and she never ceased to amaze me with her story. When she told me her background, I laughed aloud. When she learned her connection to one of the other gals in the series, I cried and rejoiced with her. Delilah truly had me on a roller coaster ride of emotions, and I couldn’t wait to sit down and tell her unique tale set against the backdrop of Central Florida’s homelessness and our wonderful natural resources. It is truly my hope that you’ll come along for the ride.

Guest Post from Toni Shiloh

Hey there, Reader Friends!

I’m so excited for the kickoff of Enduring Love. This is book 3 in the Maple Run series and features the story of Belle Peterson and Micah Campbell. You may remember meeting Micah in book 2 of the series, he is Luke Robinson’s best friend. I tell you, this book has a special place in my heart, one that brought out all the emotions in me.

Belle Peterson is living a life filled with shame and regret. She knows mentally that she’s been forgiven, but can’t reconcile the fact to how a redeemed life should look. And when Micah Campbell walks in her life, she’s certain that she has to stay as far from him as possible to keep from backsliding.

Y’all know our wants rarely meet with reality. I had fun throwing Belle and Micah together in Maple Run. Sometimes to their chagrin but always to my pleasure. J Characters from Buying Love (book 1) and Finding Love (book 2) will make an appearance, rounding out the family that has been created in my fictional town of Maple Run, Virginia.

As you take the time to read Belle and Micah’s story, I pray you keep this verse in your mind. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” – Romans 8:1 KJV

God does not want us to live a life of shame and guilt. Once we ask for forgiveness, He gives it to us freely. Walk in an abundant life, my friends, and bless others with the grace you so freely received.

Blessings to you,

Toni

About the Book

Title: Just Let Go

Author: Courtney Walsh

Release Date: June 5, 2018

Genre: Contemporary Romance

For Quinn Collins, buying the flower shop in downtown Harbor Pointe fulfills a childhood dream, but also gives her the chance to stick it to her mom, who owned the store before skipping town twenty years ago and never looking back. Completing much-needed renovations, however, while also competing for a prestigious flower competition with her mother as the head judge, soon has Quinn in over her head. Not that she’d ever ask for help.

Luckily, she may not need to. Quinn’s father and his meddling friends find the perfect solution in notorious Olympic skier Grady Benson, who had only planned on passing through the old-fashioned lakeside town. But when a heated confrontation leads to property damage, helping Quinn as a community-service sentence seems like the quickest way out—and the best way to avoid more negative press.

Quinn finds Grady reckless and entitled; he thinks she’s uptight and too regimented. Yet as the two begin to hammer and saw, Quinn sees glimpses of the vulnerability behind the bravado, and Grady learns from her passion and determination, qualities he seems to have lost along the way. But when a well-intentioned omission has devastating consequences, Grady finds himself cast out of town—and Quinn’s life—possibly forever. Forced to face the hurt holding her back, Quinn must finally let go or risk missing out on the adventure of a lifetime.

Cowboys of Summer Blog Tour and Giveaway!

CowboysOfSummer BLOG Banner

Welcome to the Cowboys of Summer Blog Tour and giveaway, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Cowboys Of SummerTitle: Cowboys of Summer
Authors: Mary Connealy, Lorna Seilstad, Cheryl St. John, Missy Tippens, Tina Radcliffe & Sherri Shackelford
Release Date: May 1, 2018
Genre: Sweet Contemporary Romance

As the summer weather sizzles, relax by the pool with stirring tales of handsome cowboys and the spirited ladies who wrangle them into romance. Six of Christian fiction’s most beloved authors join forces to bring you a collection of humorous, romantic and heartfelt novellas set against the sultry heat of summer.

In Mary Connealy’s, “Dr. Tess and the Cowboy”, sparks fly when Dr. Tessa Rhoades discovers dinosaur bones on Joe Holt’s ranch and decides to excavate—even if that means kicking Joe off his own land.

In “Hometown Girl” by Cheryl St.John, injured rodeo champion Justin Cooper returns to the sleepy Oklahoma town he escaped for fame and fortune–and takes his biggest tumble yet–straight into the arms of Stevie Marshall, his first love who soon has him questioning his life choices.

In Tina Radcliffe’s, “Lake Effect”, cynical cowboy Tucker Jackson knows he’s in trouble when he starts counting the days until the end of summer and praying ‘summer girl’ Jessica Richards will find a home for her heart in Paradise.

In “His Lone Star Heart” by Missy Tippens, rancher Zeb West tries hard not to fall for Beecher Brown, the feisty but off-limits sister of his best friend. As she tries to prove she’s capable of running her family’s ranch–the one he’s trying to buy–he might just find he’s met his match…for life.

Will Lorna Seilstad’s characters make “Great Strides” when Dana Etherton, the owner of a horse therapy ranch, must choose between the kids she serves and Adam Malone, the embezzler who’s been assigned to do community service there?

When Paige Monroe agrees to draw the press away from a country star’s wedding by pretending to be the look-alike bride, she wasn’t counting on having very real feeling for her decoy fiancé, Sterling Tanner. In Sherri Shackelford’s, “The Decoy Bride”, two people feigning love forget they’re acting.

My Thoughts

Cowboys of Summer is a perfect set of stories to enjoy during the summer months. Each story is just long enough to whisk you away into romance, but short enough you can read it while sitting on your porch swing enjoying a cool summer breeze.

The stories are sure to hold your attention, as you laugh, cry and wonder why! There are impressive and exciting stories that include cowboys. Some you would never imagine, such as the story about a paleontologist, or the one about a couple pretending to be a famous couple, in order for the famous couple to have privacy. My favorite dealt with Hippotherapy (the use of horse riding as a therapeutic or rehabilitative treatment, especially as a means of improving coordination, balance, and strength, https://en.oxforddictionaries.com). I enjoy horses, and members of my family work with physically and mentally handicapped, and I have volunteered on occasion, making this a subject near and dear to my heart.

I was familiar with a few of the authors, but there were several whose stories I haven’t had the pleasure of reading before. (Some of the stories have a PG theme as they deal with characters having an alcoholic drink, and a slightly risqué daydream). Nonetheless, I enjoyed the stories.

So, grab your favorite cuppa, find your favorite chair then sit back and prepare to be entertained as you read Cowboys of Summer.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from JustRead Publicity Tours. However, I was under no obligation to post a review, nor was a positive review required.

Promises Renewed (The Potter’s House Books, Book 5) by Mary Manners

My Review

Mary Manners scores again with her latest book, featuring Brianna Caufield and Jackson Reed.

Brianna loved Jackson with all her heart when they were teenagers. However, life, circumstances and the enticement of a pro football career shatters her dreams of marriage and a family. She doesn’t let the loss keep her down. She finishes school and starts a youth center for the kids in her hometown.

Mary Manners has written a book with a lot of depth and meaning. She deals with young love, loss and healing. Through Brianna and Jackson’s lives, she shows how others are affected by decisions that were taken out of their hands, how faith is so necessary to life and how forgiveness is crucial to being able to move on and forward in life.

I enjoyed Promises Renewed  because, unlike novellas which only give a small snapshot of the characters, a novel tells the complete story. We’re able to understand decisions made, even if we don’t agree with them and we come to care genuinely for the individuals concerned.

Promises Renewed is book 5 of The Potter’s House Books. There are currently five of 21 available, this one being released on the 22nd of May; the others will be released through 2019. Each book is a standalone and is designed so they can be read in any order you wish.

I received this book from the author, Mary Manners. However, I was under no obligation to post a review.

Runaway Romance by Miralee Ferrell

My Review

Miralee Ferrell’s book, Runaway Romance, is not only an interesting story about actors and actresses, but it’s going to be a movie on UP TV, too!

Ann Stanway thought life couldn’t be any better. She and the love of her life, Scott Adson, starred in the blockbuster reality show, Life with the Adsons. However, things aren’t as rosy as they seem, leaving her reeling. Hurt and confused she takes a trip to get away and ends up in a charming Amish community in Cave City, Kentucky.

The juxtaposition of a Hollywood lifestyle and an Amish way of living is striking. Ann’s turmoil over what was real and what her perception of reality was creates an intriguing dichotomy.  As she tries to navigate her way through a quagmire, some of her own making, she begins to realize her real problem is not being true to her faith.

The characters run the gamut from sweet and endearing to cruel and calculated, making you love some of them and be repulsed by others. The novel is well-written, and the characters well developed. The plot is unique and out of the ordinary, with not just romance, but a small touch of mystery, too.

I received Runaway Romance from the author. However, I was under no obligation to write a review.

Publisher’s Summary

When a reality TV star meets the reality of life, will it be her downfall or her salvation?

Ann Stanway had it all—a starring role in a reality show, an adoring boyfriend, and a sparkling future with limitless possibilities. Until the rules changed and the life she’d thought was real no longer existed. Leaving L.A. seems like her only option, and she lands in Kentucky at a quiet Amish inn—as far removed from her past as possible. Now she knows what was missing in her life–peace, true friendship and, dare she hope, a man who accepts her for who she is–or at least who he thinks she is.

Hunter Lewis is intrigued by the new woman staying at his friend’s Amish inn. Annie appears to be what she claims, but she’s secretive and won’t open up. He’s been burned by a woman before and can’t tolerate deception. But his interest in Annie is growing, and the attraction seems to be mutual—until something happens that makes Hunter question everything he’d thought was real. Dare he risk his heart, when he’s certain Annie is keeping secrets?

Can their new romance withstand the pressure, or will Ann choose to run again?
