Friday Freewriting

I enjoy thinking up and writing stories, I have many-mostly short stories.

The sky was a dark, angry being when Martin glanced up as he dashed to his car. He hurried thinking he wanted to get home before the heavens opened up.

Chloe looked out the window, worrying about Martin. The sky seemed to be a living, breathing being.

Chloe turned from the window, walked across the room and turned on the radio.

“We interrupt this program to bring you the following information. Everyone in the Brewster County area needs to take cover immediately-I repeat everyone in the Brewster County area needs to take cover immediately.”

Chloe knew Martin was on his way home. She said a quick prayer as she hurried down the basement stairs to take cover.

Martin knew he’d never make it home in time to be safe, so he pulled into the parking lot of a local hardware store and rushed in. An employee hollered for him to follow everyone to a back stock room.

Martin couldn’t sit still, so he began pacing and quoting Bible verses aloud,” Psalm 46:1( KJV) God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

He continued on with,” Psalm 46:7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah., Psalm 57:1 Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast, Psalm 94:22 But the Lord is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.”

People around him were starting to mutter-he was agitating their children and making them nervous.

“Hey, man,” one guy shouted, “why don’t you shut up?”

Martin, unable to be still or quiet continued his pacing and verse quoting.

“Hey you, over there. Didn’t you hear the man say shut your mouth?”

Soon others were registering their complaints in loud voices, too.

“Uh, look,” Martin said, “I’m not trying to cause trouble, this just helps keep me calm.”

“Too bad, bucko, you are upsetting the rest of us. So TAKE A SEAT or TAKE A HIKE, we don’t care which. Just sit and shut your trap.”

As Martin sat . . .

And that’s the end of my idea! (Not really, but that’s as far as I’m going regardless of what the family wants. Enough with the questions-I already broke the freewriting rule by beginning to edit!)
